The case got the national attention most missing persons advocates would love to have, but then it went too far and impeded the investigation. April Andrews left her home to walk down to a church clothing giveaway but never returned. After being assumed a runaway for years, the sheriff’s department took another look at the case and they now believe this is a criminal case. An entire family disappeared from Independence, Missouri but it wasn’t reported for 5 months. And then the police determined they were actually on the run and closed the case having never made contact with them.
