He referred to this location as "Mel's Hole."

    The Hole's Depth: Mel Waters claimed that the hole was extraordinarily deep, possibly over 80,000 feet (15 miles), though there was no way to measure it. When he and others dropped objects into the hole, they reported hearing no sound, suggesting that it went on infinitely.
