Leading Simple with Rusty George

Episode four of "Finding the Super Natural in the Natural," Rusty has a conversation with Derwin Gray, former NFL player and current pastor of Transformation Church. Gray discusses valuing people despite being an introvert, the surprising launch of Transformation Church in 2010 with 701 attendees, and the church’s emphasis on ethnically diverse community, baptisms, outreach, and local service. He explains how ministry includes systems, leadership, and hard decisions, and shares that he has written nine books despite not enjoying writing, including It’s Time to Heal, which addresses rumination, trauma, identity, and integrating gospel truth with neuroscience and spiritual formation. Gray also recounts NFL experiences, including facing Barry Sanders and a memorable hit on Dan Marino, and describes the origins of the viral “Evangelism Linebacker” skit.

In episode three of this five-episode revival series, "Finding the Super Natural in the Natural," Rusty joins Jonathan “JP” Pokluda in a conversation about spiritual warfare, his Ephesians 6 message, and how to respond without fear but with awareness, citing 1 John 4:4. JP describes studying spiritual warfare for three years, a demon manifestation he witnessed in a U.S. country club, and how his view of Satan’s defeat at the cross shapes his confidence. He also shares an ongoing health struggle from a spinal infection that damaged nerve myelin and what he learned about trusting God and sharing the gospel in the hospital. JP explains how sales training influenced his preaching structure and “REPS” method, recommends several audiobooks, discusses current revival among college students, and outlines practical evangelism questions like “Do you have a faith?”

In episode two of "Finding the Super Natural in the Natural," Rusty sits down with Ed Newton of Community Bible Church in San Antonio. Newton shares his background—from Orlando and a Bible college basketball player to 13 years as a traveling youth evangelist after a pivotal call to preach—then describes how he was invited to San Antonio and became CBC’s pastor in 2016 after years of speaking at their men’s conference. He discusses cultivating a presence-driven, altar-centered, word-and-spirit church with prayer, expectancy, and anointing oil, and explains his sermon rhythm and “scrub in/scrub out” discipline. Newton also recounts major leadership challenges, COVID-era ministry, rapid baptisms and growth, intense family hardship, mental health struggles, and how his church’s support and authenticity shaped CBC as a refuge for the distressed.

In episode one of this five part series, "Finding the Super Natural in the Natural," featuring leaders from a recent church revival, Rusty interviews Marquise Cox about his life and ministry. Marquise shares giving his life to Jesus at 16, sensing a call to pastoral ministry around 19, and being discipled and affirmed by his senior pastor, Charles Gibson, at Breakthrough Church of God in Christ. He recounts moving from California to Atlanta to serve at North Point after two years in youth ministry at Sandals Church, where he also led FCA efforts, then spending six years at North Point and later helping launch a 25–35 young adults ministry at Community Bible Church in San Antonio. They discuss benefits of video teaching, Marquise's preaching influences (Pentecostal heart, North Point clarity, Ed Newton “flow”), a balanced view of spiritual warfare using James 4 and Luke 4, and his favorite preachers and sports fandoms.
