The Run 4 the Greenway road race on Oct. 27 is a fundraiser that supports the Downtown Greenway, which is under construction in Greensboro.
The event, anchored at Morehead Park at 475 Spring Garden St., will begin with a 1-mile run at 4:30, followed by a 4-mile race at 5 p.m.
The Downtown Greenway has been under construction since 2009, but Action Greensboro project manager Dabney Sanders sees a finish line for the work arriving in 2020 (visit Greensboro.com/RunningShorts to see photos of the greenway).
In a new episode of The Running Shorts Show, I'm joined by Sanders and Laura Lorenz, the Run 4 the Greenway race director and a Downtown Greenway assistant and campaign manager, to talk about the road race and the greenway.
We discuss:
1:01: Details about the Run 4 the Greenway and how you can sign up.
6:52: Action Greensboro's history in the city, dating to 2001, and the mission and vision behind the Downtown Greenway.
12:14: The art work, including the cornerstones, woven into the greenway.
19:33: The status of remaining construction and what's ahead.
21:01: The challenges but also the successes, including community engagement and economic investment nearby, experienced during the project.
26:21: How the project has remained true to its original vision, even as it has evolved over the years.
