The Unplug Collective's Founder & CEO Amanda Taylor and Head of PR Nya Williams talk about the mission of Unplug and shortcomings within the Fashion and Medical industries around larger bodies.

I’ve been following @theunplugcollective for the last year, and I’ve learned so much. @theunplugcollective is a platform for Black women and gender-expansive people to share stories about mental health and body discrimination. I sat down with CEO & Founder @amandaliztaylor and Head of PR @geminy.a to learn more about their mission, the work they’ve been doing, about the shortcomings in the Fashion and Medical Industries around larger bodies (specifically with BMI and mental health), and what they hope for the future.

They’re treated with their body first, and not the fact that they’re human beings inside of them. Fatness has been so demonized that people cannot look past fatness. More about Unplug: Founded in 2019, The Unplug Collective is a platform for Black women and gender-expansive people to share stories about mental health and body discrimination.  As a team of 9 Black women ages 18-23, we are dedicated to building community through representation. We prioritize working closely with you to tell your stories in the form of written personal narratives, photo/video campaigns, and more because we believe that each of us holds tremendous power to educate and inspire. Along with generating content from our community, we also create our own educational research and visual content, which can be found on our Instagram page.
