It’s Post-Halloween time on the Director’s Cut!, as Beau and Ash review the 2023-by-way-of-2025 Toxic Avenger reboot, starring the likes of Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon! It’s that time again on Collateral Cinema; we are diving into yet another Halloween movie featuring everyone’s favorite Haddonfield serial killer for the titular holiday. This year, it’s the finale of the so-called ”Cult of Thorn Trilogy”—Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers! The sixth installment of the franchise is the first filmed and set in the 90s, and boy does it show. This entry was panned by audiences and considered by many to be one of the worst Halloween sequels ever, but is it at least more entertaining than the borefest that was part 5 (which we covered last season)? Continuing our spooky season, we found the perfect pairing to our Season Premiere on Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive: Sam Raimi’s 1981 feature directorial debut and indie supernatural horror film, The Evil Dead! This is Collateral Cinema’s first venture into the Evil Dead franchise, and the importance of the original movie on independent filmmaking and the horror genre as a whole cannot be understated. On the Season 9 Premiere of Collateral Cinema, we are joined by Stew from the Stew World Order podcast to talk Peter Jackson’s 1992 zombie comedy splatter film Dead Alive, a.k.a. Braindead! This cult movie may be one of the goriest in cinema, and also one of the most batshit splatter films from the filmmaker that would go on to direct the Lord of the Rings trilogy, so it’s the perfect way to start the spooky season!
