Spotify Podcaster Boot Camp Alum Ivy Le on Pitching, Crowdfunding and Producing

Spotify Podcaster Boot Camp Alum Ivy Le on Pitching, Crowdfunding and Producing

Were back with another interview episode. This time, we chat with Ivy Le, a podcaster here in Austin and an alum of the 2018 Spotify Sound Up accelerator program. Ivy was chosen to be a part of the program that Spotify put together last year to educate and support women of color in developing podcasts. Ivy talks a lot about the Spotify program, what she learned there, there are lots of takeaways for podcasters in this interview.

Ivy’s podcast is called FOGO, which is short for Fear of Going Outside. It’s a very unique show, sort of a hybrid of comedy show, narrative storytelling, and personal journal. She’s currently in production on the first season.

And like a lot of podcasters we talk to , she’s also a writer, she covered the Beer beat for a long time for the Austin Chronicle, and she’s also master marketer with a history in marketing and communication, and she is great at all that stuff. So lots to to learn from Ivy in this episode. Did I mention she’s also a comedian? She does it all, and it was great to learn form her experience.

Producing a Popular Entertainment Podcast with Brian Salisbury of Junkfood Cinema

Producing a Popular Entertainment Podcast with Brian Salisbury of Junkfood Cinema

Welcome back to Create Pod. We’re continuing our season 2 interview series with Brian Salisbury, co-host of one of our favorite movie podcasts, the Austin based cult movie show Junkfood Cinema.  Brian co-hosts the show with C. Robert Cargill, a celebrated writer and former film critic who’s written a number of novels and movies, including one you may have heard of, Marvel’s Dr. Strange

We wanted to talk to Brian because, not only is he a very successful veteran podcaster, but because Junkfood Cinema is fueled by his and Cargill’s passion for cult and exploitation movies. Their primary driver for the show is the duo’s desire to share their deep knowledge of and affection for cult films like Deep Blue SeaPiranha, and Killer Clowns From Outer Space with listeners (while having a fucking great time doing it). It makes for a uniquely entertaining podcast, and that’s why they’ve cultivated such a large audience for the show and tons of support over on Patreon.

In this chat, Brian covers everything from starting Junkfood Cinema, transitioning from writer to podcaster, and the success of the show and how they put it all together.
