For far too long Corporate America has had its knee on the neck of the black economy using its power and financial resources to keep blacks from rising economically.The African American Community generates hundreds of millions of dollars for the entertainment industry, in particular with its influential, talented entertainers. Black people in America have always wanted to build their own economic base in music, film, and television production &amp; distribution. Any artist who has accumulated great wealth and had the vision to take matters into their own hands has been met with opposition from the major players in entertainment.<br /> Every time African Americans build a great foundation in entertainment, it always seems to fall from the grip of their power. For instance, Berry Gordy Jr., the mastermind of Motown Records one of the most massive Black-owned independent record labels sold out to Universal Music Group. Black Entertainment Television (BET), in its early days, reached more than seventy-five million African American households on cable television as an independent broadcasting network, sold out to Viacom. It&#8217;s time for these strong power bases created by African Americas to stay in the black community. African American investors and moneymakers also have to make sure these proprieties remain in the control of the Black Economy. This episode #12 of the Podcast Sura Khan&#8217;s whispers of wisdom touches on this matter in a way to get the attention of African American business owners and investors and encourage them to work together to build this new economic base.
