On this episode, Michael talks with RH Bophelo’s CEO Quinton Zunga, RHB is a majority black owned JSE listed healthcare group. With a market cap of R 578,741,250, the company owns over 20 hospital facilities across South Africa. The group is committed to becoming a leading player in the transformation of the healthcare sector in the continent and Rwanda Stock Exchange CEO Pierre Celestin Rwabukumba. As the company actively looks for opportunities to ensure access to quality healthcare facilities for all, it is now spreading its wings to East Africa and has just finalized a secondary listing on the Rwandan Stock Exchange. Through private public partnerships and supporting the respective governments, RH Bophelo wants to be part of the solution to increase facilities throughout Africa and come up with long term solutions to stabilize the continent’s healthcare sector. The listing comes at a time when Africa and the world face a major health crisis which has further plunged economies in many countries and halted operations in major sectors. RH Bophelo believes that the private sector has an integral part to play in assisting to manage the crisis and minimize its economic impact. The company believes that this move is the beginning of a new era that will reshape the scope of healthcare in the African continent and come up with opportunities. The Basketball Africa League (BAL) today announced the 12 club teams from 12 African countries that will compete in the league’s inaugural season, which will tip off Friday, March 13 at the Dakar Arena in Dakar, Senegal: 1. Algeria - GSP (Groupement Sportif des Pétroliers) 2. Angola - Petro de Luanda (Clube Atlético Petroleos de Luanda) 3. Cameroon - FAP (Forces Armées et Police Basketball) 4. Egypt - Zamalek 5. Madagascar - GNBC (Gendarmerie Nationale Basketball Club) 6. Mali - AS Police (Association Sportive de la Police Nationale) 7. Morocco - AS Salé (Association Sportive de Salé) 8. Mozambique - Ferroviàrio de Maputo 9. Nigeria - Rivers Hoopers BC (Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club) 10. Rwanda - Patriots BC (Patriots Basketball Club)** 11. Senegal - AS Douanes (Association Sportives des Douanes) 12. Tunisia - US Monastir (Union Sportive Monastirienne) The inaugural BAL regular season will take place in Cairo (Egypt), Dakar (Senegal), Lagos (Nigeria), Luanda (Angola), Monastir (Tunisia) and Salé (Morocco). Kigali (Rwanda) will host the first-ever BAL Playoffs and Finals. The BAL will debut with 12 club teams from across Africa divided into two conferences, with each conference playing in three cities. Each team will play five games in the regular season, facing every team in its conference once. The top four teams in each conference will qualify for the single-elimination playoffs in Kigali, Rwanda. Nigerian sports journalist Kayode Hamed joins me to discuss the league and the opportunities it presents to Africa.
