When you live a life absent of faith, you open the door for doubt and unbelief. When you walk by sight, you're comparing the situation to your own ability to resolve it...you're taking the problem out of God's hand so you can attempt to solve it on your own. Goodness isn't an action word, it's about your character. Who are you when no one is watching? Are your motives self-serving? Do you give with the expectation of reciprocation? Good deeds doesn't mean you're operating in goodness...you could be the biggest donor to a non-profit and cheat on your wife. The fruit of longsuffering is a fruit that we tend to avoid but we need it more than we think. To be longsuffering is to be patient during hardship and inconveniences.
