Description

Today I chat with my guest Romain Pelisse, a senior Java engineer and BASH expert with over 20 years of experience in the field. We discuss digital concepts like data privacy (or lack thereof) and Open Source Software (OSS), plus the pros and cons of having your data out there and accessible to all, and the value that OSS provides to help developers keep their projects better-written and more secure.

We get into the weeds a little bit, but it’s all in good fun. I promise the various OS-bashing is kept to an absolute minimum. :)

Fair warning: A little more adult language in this one.

TL;DR

  • Data isn’t really that private. It comes down to who you trust.

  • News Flash: Sharing data can be helpful and detrimental; even at the same time.

  • OSS lets researchers (black and white hat) look under the covers; overall we agree this is a good thing.

  • A couple of security (second/third-hand) war stories.
