“I see that the picture is bigger than me. This is way bigger than me. Two weeks in I said, this is global.” The Djab Wurrung Heritage Protection Embassy have been protecting sacred land threatened by the Western Highway expansion project. The plans will duplicate the highway for a twelve kilometre stretch just before Ararat, Victoria. Traditional Owners and allies have been living across three embassies for over a year, blocking the development of the road. After months of protesting, applying for Heritage listing and appealing in court, the Embassy members are being threatened with eviction.
