After chatting with Joanna for over an hour, I really didn't have anything to say but, WOW! She’s a human dynamo, bursting with energy and inspiration. I absolutely loved having her on the podcast.

Being an Entrepreneur with Robyn Foyster - 035
NOV 15, 2020
Being an Entrepreneur with Robyn Foyster - 035

Robyn Foyster embodies what being an entrepreneur is all about. After starting out in journalism, she went on to found and run her own successful media company, Foyster Media.

Robyn kicked off her career as a journalist in print media working abroad in countries like the UK and US. Later, she returned to Australia where she ran some of the country’s most successful magazines. Think the Australian’s Women’s Weekly, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s BAZAAR.

However, her journey as an entrepreneur could only begin once she decided she was done running other people’s businesses. She was finally ready to build something of her own.

This was a really special one. Robin was a dream guest and had no shortage of great tips, and knowledge, to share. I've been a big fan of her websites, particularly Women Love Tech, so it took all my determination not to fangirl out!

In this episode we cover:

  • Robyn’s career journey from Newscorp Feature Writer and Columnist, to Publisher for Cosmopolitan, Harper’s BAZAAR and Madison, to starting her our own publishing group
  • We talk about the reality of being an entrepreneur, and how to manage the highs and lows
  • Robyn shares her approach to risk taking
  • We talk about her two apps, Vivid Sydney and Sweep, the funding process, as well as the development process and challenges
  • Robyn shares her advice to anyone considering building an app

The Impact of Technology on Law with Justine Rowe - 034
NOV 2, 2020
The Impact of Technology on Law with Justine Rowe - 034

No one understands the impact of technology on law quite like Justine Rowe. As an executive at Telstra she’s on the forefront of how law is reacting to rapidly evolving technologies.

I didn’t know a whole lot about the intersection of law and technology going into this interview. So, I really appreciated the clarity and accessibility Justine brought to this topic.

I have no doubts you’ll learn as much as I did!

In this episode we cover:

  • Justine’s career journey from legal counsel, to Chief of Staff and Executive at Telstra, Australia’s leading telco.
  • What it’s like being a lawyer in a teleco, and the impact of technology on law over the last 18 years.
  • Justine shares the importance of linking your purpose to work
  • We discuss the difference between a “traditional leader” and an “authentic leader”, and how to be an authentic leader, even though you may not lead a team
  • Justine also shares a vulnerable story about managing anxiety, and how it felt to finally bring her full self to work
  • And so much more!
