EP 19: How to Avoid a Friendship Breakup
You have a friend you'd call one of your closest, and you haven't had a real conversation with her in months. Something happened that neither of you brought up, so now there's a little distance you're both pretending not to notice. They call it the friendship recession. The share of women with six or more close friends fell from 41% in 1990 to 24%, per the Survey Center on American Life. So it's not a you problem. Nobody taught us how to keep one.Catherine Wheeler has been my friend for thirteen years, and we let something sit for a month before we dealt with it. This is the conversation after that conversation. Then go call her. Not text. Call.Anchor scripture — Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 (NIV)Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. EP 17: Faith & Fertility | Freezing My Eggs at 42
If you're 31 and this has been on your list for two years, or 36 and every appointment ends in reassurance instead of information, or 41 and you've stopped bringing it up at all, this episode is for you. I went through egg freezing this year and I'm giving you the version nobody gave me. This video covers everything from my mindset before I decided to freeze my eggs to what happened post-op. Wanting something for two decades that you can't make happen on your own changes you. It changes how you pray, who you say yes to, and eventually whether you'll admit you still want it at all. This one is for the woman who wants a family and doesn't have the husband, the timeline, or the answer yet. Anchor scripture — Genesis 18:10–14 (NIV) Then one of them said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?" Then the Lord said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son." EP 16: Stop Waiting, Start Living with Chris McSwain
You've been believing for the same thing for years. Marriage, a baby, the house, the job. And somewhere in there you started answering "are you seeing anyone?" with a joke, because a joke hurts less than the truth.Chris McSwain is in her early forties, single, and has spent a long time in that exact tension. What she's landed on isn't a pep talk about the right timing. It's a working definition of faith that lets you live all the way in the life you have while still believing for the one you want, and it holds up whether or not the thing ever comes. She gets into why you can't earn your way into being chosen, what purity culture set up in a lot of us that we're still untangling, and the specific way we use our own words to protect ourselves from disappointment — the "I'm fine, I didn't really want it anyway" that quietly costs you the thing you're praying for. This one is for the woman who is genuinely grateful and genuinely tired. Who has a beautiful life and still feels left out.Scripture: Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) — "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." EP 15: Gifted? But You Never Asked God What He Wanted for You - Jessica Chinyelu
You've made the board. You've written the goals. You stopped looking at both of them months ago, and you still can't answer what you're supposed to be doing. The problem isn't that you're short on gifts. You have too many and no way to rank them, so you start nothing, or you start everything. Jessica Chinyelu answered that question for herself sitting in her living room with a newborn, no job, and a business she'd just shut down. What she came out with is a framework, and she walks through all of it here. How to narrow it down. How to know when you've landed on the right one. One warning: she's direct about what you have to put down first, and about the fact that putting something down means grieving it, even when you're the one who chose to. This is for the woman who's been "figuring it out" for a year. The one who looks fine and knows she's stuck. Scripture: Habakkuk 2:2 — "Write the vision down, make it plain and clear so that those who see it may run with it."
