Kelli Swazey

Kelli Swazey

Kelli Swazey talks to Matt about how and why she made her way to Indonesia where she's spent the past decade working in education, religious diversity, and cross-cultural studies. As her TedX bio says, "Swazey believes biodiversity and cultural diversity are inexorably linked. Her work insists we can't protect one without defending the other."

Interestingly, Kelli and Matt knew each other briefly growing up. In the summers, Kelli would travel from Maine to Western New York, where she would visit her grandparents for a few weeks. Matt was friends with the kid next door to her grandparents, so they would spend those few weeks having bonfires, jumping on trampolines, and just hanging out like kids do.

Freddy and Mary Martinez
JUN 1, 2020
Freddy and Mary Martinez

Freddy Martinez talks to Matt about growing up in Virginia after moving to the US from Panama, what it was like to learn English, and how tight he was with his mother. He eventually joined the Navy, and ultimately met his wife, Mary, who was stationed at a nearby Army base.

Colonel Mary Martinez joins the chat to talk about her military career, and being deployed when their kids were young, but how those sacrifices and hard work have cemented their future.

Freddy and Mary are big Buffalo Bills fans, so we talk about that as well - how a kid from Panama who grew up in Virginia started following a football team from Buffalo, NY.
