Today, Thursday, December 11 on Urban Forum Northwest: *Representative Mia Gregerson (D)-33rd LD was one of the elected state elected officials that used her influence and connections to have the Washington State Transportation Commission unanimously pass Resolution 755 which paved the way for the extension of Martin Luther King Jr. Way from Seattle to Kent. MLK Way signs will be added to existing signage. *Senator Claudia Kauffman (D) 47th LD has been trying to for over a year to expand Martin Luther King Jr. Way from Seattle to Kent. on yesterday, December 10 the Washington State Transportation Commission rewarded her work by voting unanimously for the extension. *Gwen Allen-Carston, Executive Director, Kent Black Action Commission (KBAC) was delighted by the positive action taken by the Washington State Transportation Commission. She and KBAC members were key organizers in the effort to stretch MLK Way to Kent. *Hayward Evans, Co Convener, Seattle King County Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Committee (MLKCC) expresses his appreciation for the Washington State Transportation Committee for their vote to extend MLK Way. *Stephen Gray, Chief Operating Officer, New Beginnings Christian Fellowship (NBCF) was happy to hear the church will be located on Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Today, Thursday, December 4 on Urban Forum Northwest: *Tributes will be paid to the late Legendary Player, Coach, and General Manager of the Seattle Supersonics Lenny Wilkens who will have his Celebration of Life tomorrow, Friday December 5. Former Players Nate McMillian who played for the Sonics 1986-1998 and was the Sonics Coach 2000-2005. Dale Ellis was a Sonics player 1986-1990. They both talk about the impact Coach Wilkens had on their lives during and after basketball. Jaci McCormack, Co Founder & CEO, RiseAbove a nonprofit that works with youth of a number of Indian Tribes in Washington state, she comments on how Lenny helped out. *Attorney Jesse Wineberry, Sr., Co Founder & Director, Washington Equity Now Alliance (WENA) talks about his efforts to get a Reparations Study for African Descendants of Chattel Slavery in Washington state. A significant number of African American individuals and organizations are questioning the Washington state Department of Commerce process of selecting the "Apparent Successful Bidder". WENA and others have received commitments for an additional $450,000.00 for the study, that's in addition to the state's initial $300,000.00. *Keith Tucker, Founder, Hip Hop is Green is the son of John Jeffrey (Jeff) Tucker has had his seventeen year effort to finally have his father acknowledge as the Founder of Seattle's Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. On Tuesday Seattle City Council member Joy Hollingsworth presented Keith with a Proclamation designating Tuesday John Jeffrey Tucker Day For his efforts. *Randolph (Randy) Cross, Executive Secretary, Seattle's Royal Esquire Club provides the calendar of events that will. take place for the month of December at the Club. Today, Thursday, November 27 on Urban Forum Northwest: *LaTaunya Witherspoon, Owner, SPOONFED TRAINING An we revisit the tribute to Leny Wilkens from 11/13/25 with: *Fred Brown (Downtown Freddie Brown) of the 1979 NBA Champion Seattle SuperSonics who once scored 58 points in a game before there was a three point line in the NBA. He comments on his history with the late Seattle SuperSonics Player and Coach Lenny Wilkens. Fred was Lenny’s teammate in 1971 and his coach in 1977. *Spencer Haywood was playing for Denver of the American Basketball Association (ABA)and decided to join the Seattle SuperSonics of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1971. The NBA had a rule that prohibited players from playing in the NBA until after four years after high school, Spencer had only been out of high school for two years. He sued the NBA with the full support of Player/Coach Lenny Wilkens and he won in Supreme Court voiding the NBA Four Year Rule. *Jalen Rose known as one of the Fab 5 of the University of Michigan and played in the NBA and has continued following the game as a Analyst for ESPN and now with TNT covering college basketball games and doing some halftime work during NBA games. He reflects on his longtime relationship with Coach Lenny Wilkens. *Brad Meyers, Co Founder & COO, Rise Above the non profit is led by Co Founder & CEO, Jaci McCormack, the organization works with 29 Indian Tribes in Washington State. Coach Lenny Wilkens has been a supporter and mentor to the organization and Brad. Brad is a close family friend of the Wilkens family and is assisting with final rites. State Senator Bob Hasegawa (D)-11 had the senate allocate $300,000.00 for the study and Representative Mia Su Ling Gregerson (D)-33 had the House match the senate's $300,000.00. He explains how the goal of $1,000,000.00 will be reached. *Jawann Bennett, Co host of Game Time Sports with his brother Khalid Bennett, they are known as JB & KB on KRIZ 1620 AM-Z TWINS 1:00-3:00 pm Monday-Friday. The Seattle Medium Newspaper and KRIZ are sponsoring a food drive Saturday, November 22 from 10:00 am-4:00 pm at 2600 South Jackson Street in Seattle's CD. He also offers his perspective on our local sports teams. *Gwen Allen Carston, executive director, Kent Black Action Commission (KBAC) talks about the effort to extend the name of Martin Luther King Jr. Way from Seattle to Kent. She has the support of Representative Mia Gergerson and their effort includes a petition drive to garner the support needed to make MLK Way come to fruition. *Hayward Evans, Co convener, Seattle King County Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Committee (MLKCC) comments on the Opportunity Fair one of the activities sponsored by the Seattle Martin Luther King Jr. Organizing Coalition.
