Friends From Film School Podcast - Army of the Dead: Blockbuster or Lackluster?

Listeners' Discretion Advised: This podcast contains clips of the film containing strong language

Zack Snyder is at it again with yet another high profile streaming film, this time on Netflix. Starring Dave Bautista and a digitally-added Tag Notaro, Army of the Dead follows a group of mercenaries as they take the ultimate gamble by venturing into Zombie infested Las Vegas for the greatest heist ever. Join Luke, Brad, and Ellis as they share their overall thoughts on the story, acting, digital effects, and that super shallow depth of field that director Zack Snyder used throughout the film. Is this Zombie shoot 'em up a certified streaming blockbuster or is it unfortunately lackluster? Join us and find out on this week's episode of Friends From Film School!

Listeners' Discretion Advised: This podcast contains clips of the film containing strong language

Ever since the Super Mario Bros. Movie came out in 1993, popular video game properties have quickly been greenly to live action movies, but in many ways, the art form has suffered in the transition from console to cinema. This week the friends from film school gang (minus Luke who is on vacation) review the new live action Mortal Kombat and ultimately answer the question,  "Do Video Games make good movies?" Join us as we discuss Earth's greatest champions, flawless victories, and what makes it so darn difficult to nail the combo of having a great video game and a good film adaption. So "GET OVER HERE" and join in as Brad and Ellis for an awesome episode of FFFS!

Friends From Film School Podcast - EP 65: Princess Mononoke -  Can Anime Reach Universal Acclaim?

This week we conclude our journey to the East in search of becoming true Anime fans. We watch the 1997 Hayao Miyazaki classic, Princess Mononoke and tackle the question of "Can anime reach universal acclaim?" Mononoke tells the story of a young Emishi prince named Ashitaka, and his involvement in a struggle between the gods of a forest and the humans who consume its resources.  The film is known for its heartfelt story, beautiful showcase of human folly, and its influence on filmmakers and fans alike. It is one of the highest grossing Japanese films of all time and a major cornerstone of solidifying anime's reputation in the West. Dive in with us as we discuss this Studio Ghibli hit and figure out if Luke and Brad will join Ellis as "true anime fans!"
