3 Techniques to Cope with Stress & Anxiety

Anxiety is a future-oriented state of mind and is rooted in what you are worried about or afraid of. It is when we focus on the what-ifs instead of what is. In order to get rid of anxiety whenever it comes up, follow these three techniques.

#1 Self-Awareness: You are the observer of the anxiety. Take back your power and realize that anxiety happens to you and for you, not by you. Anxiety is there for your benefit. So that you can understand that you are way stronger than it.

The root of all anxiety is fear of some possible outcome. Therefore, you must first be fully accepting that the negative outcome associated with your anxiety is possible, but not definite. Speak out loud, "I am allowed to fail. I am allowed to mess up."

#2 - Adopt an attitude of gratitude. Fully accept that you have the feeling of anxiety, not that you are it. You are not anxious, you are experiencing the feeling of anxiousness in your body. Detach yourself from the feeling but don't try to get rid of it, that feeling is inside of you. Embrace it fully and it'll go away on its own.

#3 - Focus on the present moment: Engage the five senses. Look at a piece of art in your room. Listen to some music. Read a book. Light a candle or aromatherapy. Do something that will get your mind back on the present moment.
