Bring Back V10s - Classic F1 stories

Welcome to a free episode we're releasing in full from The Race Members' Club's Bring Back V10s 1993 Revisited series.

Throughout 2025 we've been doing race-by-race episodes on the 1993 F1 season, which was voted for by our members as the follow-up to the 1997 season we covered in 2024.

Season 12 of Bring Back V10s concludes with a brilliant selection of questions about F1’s V10 era that came in from The Race Members’ Club. Glenn Freeman is joined by Mark Hughes, Ben Anderson and Edd Straw to tackle a wide range of topics, including how F1’s modern-day driving guidelines would be applied to the Michael Schumacher/Damon Hill Adelaide 1994 collision, who was most at fault for the collapse of the Prost-Peugeot partnership, how refuelling would have changed the Ayrton Senna/Alain Prost dynamic at the start of the V10 era, what would have happened if Michael Schumacher chose McLaren over Ferrari for 1996, plus much more including our verdict on a brilliant submission of the ultimate Bring Back V10s 16-race F1 calendar.

For Season 12’s top 10 debate, we took a suggestion from Chris Parrott in The Race Members’ Club to rank the biggest F1 heartbreaks of the V10 era. Having then enlisted the help of many more of our members on Patreon in the Bring Back V10s community chat group, a shortlist of crushing moments was created for Glenn Freeman, Ben Anderson, Matt Beer and Edd Straw to put into their own top 10s. Unsurprisingly we were spoilt for choice, so get ready for a lengthy chat that primarily focuses on underdogs who came painfully close to great moments of glory, but also features a few greats who were denied early success before their careers truly took off. 

Bring Back V10s heads back to 1993 for the final regular episode of Season 12, with an in-depth look at that year's Monaco Grand Prix, which proved a historic one for Ayrton Senna as he took a record-breaking sixth victory in the Principality.

Glenn Freeman is joined by Andrew van de Burgt and 1993 apologist Edd Straw to look back on the big off-track stories making headlines leading into the weekend and the key on-track moments in the race, including a controversial jump-start penalty for Alain Prost, an unlucky retirement for Michael Schumacher, and a wild moment featuring Gerhard Berger, Damon Hill and Michael Andretti. Plus, Glenn, Andrew and Edd discuss whether Senna's record-breaking victory was actually the worst of his six wins in Monaco.

Bring Back V10s goes 'Hybrid' for the second time in its history, heading back to the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix where Sebastian Vettel took his first win for Ferrari, and inflicted Mercedes' first proper defeat of the hybrid era by beating Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in a straight fight.

Glenn Freeman is joined by Ben Anderson and Edd Straw, who were both at Sepang that weekend, to look back on why Ferrari had the upper hand on Mercedes in race trim, and if Mercedes' cautious approach to race strategy and fairness between its two drivers worked against it.

We also reflect extensively on McLaren's miserable start to its second stint with Honda, and Fernando Alonso's mysterious pre-season testing crash which had ruled him out of the season-opener in Australia.

Plus there's plenty of talk about Red Bull-Renault's 2015 troubles, with both parties claiming they were considering their futures in F1 off the back of such a tough ride in the early part of the hybrid era.
