Epic Brum

Tony Briggs is the official photographer for Ocean Colour Scene and worked alongside the legendary Birmingham band during their chart-topping days in the 1990s.  Tony has revisited those glory years in a new book, ’Behind The Scene’, which features many of his best images of the band, as well as some previously unreleased work.  In this special edition of the Epic Brum podcast, Tony tells content director Dan Harrison about the process of putting the book together and recalls some of the tales behind his favourite photos.

Birmingham’s Kaljit Atwal is making a name for herself in the world of freestyle football.  She joined Epic Brum’s Dan Harrison to talk about making the transition to freestyle after years of playing the traditional game of football. Kaljit took up freestyle football in 2020 and has already built up an impressive social media following by posting footage of herself performing skills and tricks.  As well as discussing future plans for her freestyle career, Kaljit tells us how she would like to inspire more girls from the Asian community.

Alexander Edwards, known as Brumhaus, has been capturing Birmingham‘s ever-changing landscape with his unique style of art.  He joined Epic Brum‘s content director Dan Harrison to talk about his style, artistic influences and Birmingham‘s thriving creative scene. At the time of recording, a giant Brumhaus poster had just gone on display at the Bullring as part of Birmingham Design Festival‘s ‘The Creative City‘ exhibition.

Alex talks to Epic Brum's content director Dan Harrison about The Wilderness' self-styled "rock 'n' roll fine dining" concept, his unconventional route into the restaurant business and his thoughts on Birmingham's dining scene.
