Artist Statement:

“As a multidisciplinary artist, my work is an investigation of the unfavoured American experience. Through skepticism and curiosity, I cross examine the political and socio economic status of said groups; and how it relates directly to their behavior and psyche. My goal is to address viewers’ preconceived notions of these underrepresented groups, and provide my subjects with an agency over their representation in mainstream media.

Simultaneously, I am to encourage viewers to question how those narratives are portrayed to the world at large and understand the vast juxtapositions. Emphasizing the importance of inclusion and accessibility, the works I create are for the people who are excluded from the conversation and lack the privilege to join.

Those who the world thinks are as they tend to be portrayed, instead of their authentic self. My work is reclaiming the narrative, and shedding light on the false stigmas and stereotypes of the unfavoured American by documenting, sharing and creating narrative based work.

Subversive and conceptual are two constant pillars in my work, where there is a constant struggle against systems and institutions, that tend to alter the authentic depiction of the unfavoured American experience. In retrospect my works will challenge the viewer’s thoughts on the unfavoured experience, and encourage the unfavoured American to accept the worlds judgement but change the portrayal.
