Humanizing refugee children beyond legalistic narratives. We pay special attention to the lived experiences of children crossing the borderlands, and how that continues inside the U.S. in the form of social violence and beurocratic violence. Luis Salgado join the U.S. Army after graduating from his B.A. from the University of California Santa Cruz. Luis joins the U.S. Army in hopes of accomplishing his dream of working in the medical field. His life story shows us how an undocumented child struggles to makes choices that allow him to keep his life and dreams alive even when faced with great challenges and legal obstacles. This story is a true American dream story that gives us hope and inspiration to help us follow our own passions and dreams, we learn that we must never give up even when we are faced with tears and the sadness laid on our path to victory.
