An Introduction to Low and Behold

William and Gum Hee Low are our grandparents, our Goong Goong and Paw Paw.  We have some memories of them but they died before we were old enough to ask them questions about their lives. So we did the next best thing and asked their kids to describe them. Questions we ask in this episode include: - How would you describe your Mum? And your Dad? - In what ways are you similar to your Mum and Dad? - Describe the partnership between Goong Goong and Paw Paw at home and in their businesses.

All of our lives we have been asked &quot;Where are you REALLY from?&quot; In this episode we ask the Low siblings how they answer this question, and find out how race and racism has impacted their lives. We discover that they never experienced racism as children growing up in Australia, which was a huge surprise for us. We also learn about the influence of Chinese values in our family and what their experience was visiting China for the first time. Questions we asked include: - How do you describe your cultural background? - When do you feel the most Chinese? And when do you feel more Australian? - Have you ever experienced racism? - How has growing up in Western Sydney as a Chinese Australian shaped your view of the world?

Food and Celebrations

Stories from the Low Family. Two cousins interview their Dads, Uncles and Aunty about growing up Chinese-Australian in Western Sydney in the 50s and 60s. Listen to the voices of 6 siblings as they share their stories and reflections. We interviewed each sibling separately over the course of a year. Each were asked the same questions. Their answers have been compiled together and are being shared with the family for the first time via this podcast.
