Whats Poppin GW!! For this weeks episode Klea and Amanda are talking all things TV. First we kick things off discussing the (allegedly) famous “where’s the beef slogan” which Klea claims to have never heard. The jury is still out on who’s right, though it may boil down to a cable household vs no cable household discrepancy. Continuing the theme of important cultural moments, Amanda shares that she’s started watching Seinfeld for the first time. Seinfeld, which was on air in the 90’s, is beloved by many-a-parents out there, yet did not receive the same love and cult following as other 90’s classics such as Friends. Looking back, its interesting comparing how comedy styles and joke structures then and now have changed, as well as comparing how those shows have stood the test of time, because let’s face it: most don’t. For example, many beloved shows of the past lack in the “rewatchability” aspect. This important marker of what differentiates good and bad shows is apparent even for more recent shows that we grew up with such as iCarly, produced by the genius but disgusting Dan Schnider. Switching gears to something a little more….”real”… Trisha Pastas exposed David Dobriks famous vlog for its shadiness, prompting a look into influencer culture to round out this episode. From David Dobrik’s abuse of power, to Charli D’amelio and Company’s covid disregard, you’ve got to wonder: why are we expecting any better from them than regular degular plebeians?—Tune into the episode on Spotify and follow @gwwhatspoppin for memes and more hot takes!

WHAT’S POPPIN GW?? The show is back for it’s second season, with returning host and executive producer Amanda Shkreli! This season, we have two new hosts: Klea Markollari, and Nathalie Vuk, both sophomores here at GW. Make sure to check out the show’s new instagram page, @whatspoppingw !! This week’s episode, we start off by talking about the vibes in our communities prior to the inauguration. For DC in specific, the area became a militarized zone with almost every street on the grid having a blockade and a military officer, while smaller areas such as St. Louis Missouri (go Klea!) increase security to prepare for civil unrest. To start of the new season, we all share our roses and thorns of the week- including a few tragic stories about permanent hair damage and the difficulties of traveling around the city under the national guard. The most prominent news topic of the episode is definitely the rumors surrounding Armie Hammer, which have basically been confirmed by his ex-wife. Basically, Armie Hammer (famously known in our generation for his role in acclaimed film Call Me by Your Name) has been accused of being an emotional/physical abuser in romantic and secual relationships. Beyond these general accusations, the story gets darker when it comes to his fascination with blood, flesh, and other sadistic interests. Several women have come out and called Armie a cannibal -- check out this episode to hear more about the story and what the hosts make of it!
