On the night of September 19, 1952, 22 year old Betty Shanks stepped off a tram in the Brisbane suburb of Grange and began the short walk home to her parents’ house, less than 400 metres away. Within minutes, she was violently attacked and killed, her body discovered the following morning in a neighbour’s garden.
