It basically took the side-scrolling run-and-gun gameplay, toned the seriousness WAY down - not that Contra was an uberserious indictment about the glorification of war - but it really made things much more cartoony, and it wound up being one of SNK's most popular series, with a ton of sequels and spinoffs since then. <br /><br />So my question to you is, what would you take and reinvent to make it more light-hearted and comical? What games, genre, movie, TV series, or books are just too serious for their own good, and would benefit from being more zany and cartoony?
