Title Welcome to the Haumea ecoculture podcast Author Cathy Fitzgerald Description My name is Cathy Fitzgerald and I’m an ecosocial artist, an ecological artist, an ecoliteracy educator and consultant, and I live in Ireland.   I will be cohosting these sessions with my wonderful philosopher colleague, Nikos Patedakis, PhD, who’s based in California.   In these podcasts, we’ll be hosting insightful conversations with leading cultural workers about the power of creativity for the ecological emergency. Now creativity is rising on a tide of awareness of ecological interdependence.  Where people are beginning to embrace integrated ecosocial values. Our understanding of wellbeing is therefore necessarily expanding to consider care, not only for ourselves and others, but for the wider community of life, now and for future generations.  And who is Haumea? As my Irish ancestors and I have traveled back and forth across the great Pacific ocean, I chose the name of the Polynesian Earth Goddess, Haumea [pron. How – maya]  for my work. Over time, Haumea became a male God when Polynesians traveled to Aotearoa New Zealand where I was born. I came back to the home of my Irish ancestors in the mid nineties. And Haumea came to mind when I was thinking  about the need for wise regenerative creativity.  Incidentally, Haumea is also the first Indigenous name given to a dwarf planet in our solar system and some say the discovery of Haumea corresponds to an awakening planetary eco-consciousness and a renewed interest in other more life- sustaining and equitable worldviews.
