Caius Lucius asks Cymbeline to ransom his servant, a British boy (who is, of course, the disguised Imogen). Cymbeline does not recognize her but orders her freed and offers to give her any privilege within his power to grant. She speaks with him in private, and Belarius and his sons marvel at seeing the adopted brother they thought was dead. Cymbeline returns and asks Iachimo to step forward. Imogen demands to know where he got the ring on his finger. Iachimo confesses how he used trickery to win the bet with Posthumus. Posthumus emerges from the crowd and attacks Iachimo. When Imogen tries to intervene, Posthumus hits her, thinking she’s a boy. Pisanio scolds Posthumus. Imogen, revealing her true identity, turns on Pisanio for trying to poison her. The old doctor Cornelius intervenes, explaining how the Queen tricked Pisanio into thinking the poison was a healing potion and that he (Cornelius) secretly changed the ingredients to make it non-lethal. Posthumus embraces his wife. As everyone begins to piece it all together, Guiderius (Polydore) confesses that he killed Cloten. When Cymbeline orders that Guiderius be put to death for killing the prince, Belarius reveals himself as the banished courtier and tells the king that Guiderius and Arviragus are the sons that were stolen from him long ago. Cymbeline, overcome with happiness, forgives Belarius and welcomes him back to court. Meanwhile, Iachimo offers his life to Posthumus as payment for his sins, but Posthumus graciously forgives him. Together, everyone works to interpret the prophecy that Jupiter left in the book Posthumus found beside him that morning. The joyful king frees the Roman prisoners and vows to resume the tribute payments. Everyone goes to give thanks to the gods and to celebrate a lasting peace.
