242. Nervous System Regulation Doesn't Need to be Complicated with Dr. Kathleen Kelley
When people think about stress management, it’s often through the lens of “getting rid of stress.” But stress itself isn’t the problem, and in many ways, it actually helps move us forward. The problem is staying stuck in stress all day long without giving your body moments to recover. Learning how to bring yourself back to center before overwhelm takes over is essential, and it starts with nervous system regulation practices you can easily do every day.My guest today is Dr. Kathleen Kelley, a professor of physical therapy, board-certified neurological clinical specialist, certified yoga and meditation teacher, and life coach. She draws on her extensive experience and education in her coaching practice, helping busy clinicians and high-achieving professionals use simple regulation tools to feel more grounded, calm, and in control of their nervous systems. In this episode, we discuss Dr. Kelley’s many practical nervous system regulation techniques, why stress release matters more than avoiding stress altogether, and the connection between regulation, emotions, and creating intentional change in your life. This conversation is an invitation to notice how often you give yourself moments of pause, care, and reconnection throughout the day, and to consider how you may be able to give yourself more. The key to a more spacious life is practicing these small moments of regulation and self-connection one day at a time. Let’s get started! What you’ll learn:Simple nervous system regulation tools and techniques that can be used on the flyWhy nervous system regulation happens through small moments of reconnecting with yourself throughout the dayHow taking care of yourself helps you feel better while also modeling regulation for othersThe neuroscience behind why dysregulation cuts you off from clear thinkingHow manifesting works as a combination of attention, intention, and aligned action that primes the nervous systemYou can read the full show notes here.About Dr. Kathleen KelleyDr. Kelley is a professor of physical therapy at Quinnipiac University. She has taught neurologic rehabilitation, balance, falls, and vestibular dysfunction. Currently, she teaches both gross anatomy and neuroanatomy. Dr. Kelley received her BS in physical therapy from the University of Connecticut, her MS in neurology from Boston University, and her Doctorate in education from the University of Sarasota. She is also a board-certified neurological clinical specialist (emeritus), certified yoga and meditation teacher, and a certified Life Coach. Dr. Kelley’s passion for neurology, brain health, wellness, and self-care led her to dive deeply into the neuroscience of stress, stress management, and best practices for brain health. Dr. Kelley applies modern neuroscience to develop practical tools for regulating the nervous system for both educators and clinicians. When not teaching, you can find Dr. Kelley on her yoga mat, walking her beloved rescue dog Corkey, or knitting while watching reruns of Star Trek.Website: kathleenkelleycoaching.comInstagram: instagram.com/kathleenkelleycoachingFacebook: facebook.com/kathleen.kelley.coachingFree Session: calendly.com/kathleenkelleycoaching/45-minute-stress-assessment Processing Feelings Exercise: youtube.com/watch?v=h6glPua5gOwConnect with Molly ClaireDid you know that I’m gathering a small group of coaches to work with you privately this summer? 241. Your Story Matters: The power of being seen and heard with Matt Kjar
Excellent coaching helps people understand themselves, feel their emotions, recognize patterns, and create meaningful change in their lives. But how do coaches communicate the depth of their work in a way that actually reaches people? What does it really mean to be seen and heard beyond simply posting content or recording videos? In this episode, I’m talking with Emmy Award-winning video producer Matt Kjar about video storytelling, ethical marketing, and how to tell better stories. Matt has worked in television and video production for more than 20 years, including reality television, documentaries, commercials, and Olympic coverage. After he discovered coaching and experienced its impact firsthand, he began using video storytelling to help coaches build trust and create a deeper connection with the people they serve.Matt’s understanding of the technical side of storytelling and how coaches create transformation changes everything when it comes to marketing for coaches. He knows that the most effective storytelling isn’t just about polished marketing, but staying aligned with your values and being confident while sharing your message.Video storytelling can be a powerful bridge between coaches and the people seeking their support, helping coaches communicate not just what they do, but who they are. Let’s dive in!What you’ll learn:Why video storytelling goes far beyond camera quality or microphone levelsHow ethical marketing and the intention behind your content matter so muchWhy coaches have to learn to see and trust themselves before showing up for othersHow to access the ability to be seen and heard on deeper and deeper levelsHow storytelling helps coaches connect with the people who need their work mostYou can read the full show notes here.About Matt KjarMatt Kjar helps coaches and entrepreneurs make videos that change business and lives. He began his video and film production journey in front of the camera, as a child actor. He soon realized that the ones who really make the magic happen are behind the camera, so he decided to focus on making magic. He’s had the opportunity to interview A-list celebrities during the Sundance Film Festival, work internationally with the Olympics through 11 Games (He just got back from Italy), and has 2 Emmys from a story focused docu-follow series. Matt is most passionate about helping people change their lives which lead him to become a certified Life Coach. He wants to help you (as Steve Job’s said) put a ding in the universe. 3 fun facts about Matt: He is the 7th of 8 children. He was his high school mascot “Wally the Wildcat,” and could do a roundoff-back-flip with the massive mascot head. He and his wife sold everything they owned and traveled around the US with their four children for a year.Website: mattkjar.comInstagram: instagram.com/l.matthewkjarFacebook: facebook.com/l.matthewkjar4-part Storytelling Guide: mattkjar.comConnect with Molly ClaireGet the book: She Rises: Insights and Wisdom from the Women of The Masterful Coach CollectiveMolly's Website: MollyClaire.ComMaster Coach Training Application OpenHave a question or thoughts about the podcast? 238. Self Connection is the Key to Masterful Coaching with Maria Hendershot
Self-connection is at the heart of holistic coaching. In order to see the whole picture of your clients as human beings, you have to understand your own mind, emotions, and nervous system and how they impact you both personally and professionally. Even if you’re not a coach, connecting to yourself is essential to connecting more deeply in your relationships and with the world around you. That’s why I am so excited about this conversation with Master Coach, Maria Hendershot. Maria and I have known each other for a while and have worked together in different capacities, including as co-authors on our best-selling book, She Rises. She took part in my holistic Master Coach Training program, and I’ve had the opportunity to witness her become so masterful in her ability to articulate coaching concepts that truly help others transform.Like many of us, Maria was initially trained in a cognitive approach focused on how thoughts create feelings and shape our results. Through deeper training, she began to understand what was happening in the nervous system, what was getting stored in the body, and why patterns get recycled. Today, you’ll hear how that understanding opened a whole new space for growth, both for herself and for the women she works with.As you listen to this episode, I hope you take in how important it is to be kind and gentle with yourself, and to really see and accept all of you. When you can do that, you create space for greater wholeness, deeper self-connection, and more meaningful, lasting change in your life and in how you support others. Let’s dive in!What you’ll learn:How Maria combines different methodologies and tools to support transformationWhy a mindset-only approach can only take you so far before it starts working against youHow self-connection impacts your ability to create change in every area of your lifeHow Maria uses her training as a Tiny Habits coach to support aligned actionWhy celebrating small wins isn’t frivolous, but essential to shaping new patternsYou can read the full show notes here.About Maria HendershotMaria Hendershot is a master certified life coach and health coach who helps overwhelmed midlife women feel like themselves again—and become the woman who achieves her goals.
