From her legendary Muscle Shoals recordings in the early ‘70s to disco hits such as “Young Hearts Run Free” to global dance anthem “You’ve Got the Love”, Candi Staton - the “Queen of Southern Soul” - is our next guest on Love You Live.

Candi’s story is one of success in the face of adversity. She struggled with abusive parents, partners and record labels on her path to becoming one of the greatest soul singers of all time. From her gospel roots she broke through with her historic Southern Soul recordings at Muscle Shoals Studios which led on to her classic disco hits of the late 70s.

She played at Love Supreme in 2015 and so we got to experience her incredible live show first hand; a show that has been honed over the last 50 years alongside Aretha Franklin, Mahaliah Jackson, Clarence Carter and many more legends of the soul world. She was announced to be making her second appearance at the festival in 2020 and we hope to bring her back to Glynde as soon as we can.

In Love You Live, she discusses her formative gospel experiences in Church as a childand the pivotal shows she witnessed such as Sam Cooke, Earth Wind and Fire and Prince as she looks back on her incredible life through the shows that made her.
