He&#39;s received a letter from Mr. Collins asserting that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are engaged, and warning them to be careful of the disapproval of the gentleman&#39;s most esteemed and noble aunt. It&#39;s a wonderful joke, because Mr. Bennet is sure that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are the two people in the world <em>least</em> likely to be engaged. Elizabeth humors him, but it adds to her distress - could she be hoping for too much?
