Ethical Marketing Podcast - 12 - Stuart talks to Jamie Barnard, CEO of Compliant
Welcome to our latest podcast , in this episode Stuart chats to Jamie Barnard, CEO of Compliant, a SaaS technology company that helps advertisers, agencies and publishers simplify data compliance across the media supply chain. About our guest: Jamie plays a key role in the vanguard shaping emerging regulations that impact performance marketing and digital innovation.  He is one of the industry’s most vocal advocates for responsible media, and is recognised internationally as an expert in law, privacy and public policy.   Jamie is a popular speaker on the global stage, delivering thought-provoking speeches for the likes of ISBA, Tech UK, the WFA, the ANA, Kantar, Google, and Meta, and a regular contributor to the British trade press.  He is a published authority on digital governance and ethics in data and AI (his published works include the world’s first guide for brands on Data Ethics, ‘The Rise of Morality in Technology’, the ‘CMO Guide to Ethics in Practice’ and ‘The Compliance Illusion’).   Jamie was Unilever’s General Counsel for Global Marketing and Media for 15 years, helping the industry tackle the toughest challenges, including viewability, brand safety, cross-media measurement, sustainability and online harms.  In 2022, Jamie co-founded Compliant with industry veterans from Facebook and P&G.  The company is on a mission to simplify data compliance across the media supply chain.  Their technology helps advertisers measure the compliance of digital ad inventory, helps agencies curate compliant media from trusted publishers, and helps publishers demonstrate compliance to potential buyers.  By integrating data compliance metrics into campaign planning alongside established metrics like viewability and brand safety, brands avoid wasting money on media that jeopardizes their own compliance, and exposes them to unparalleled regulatory, financial, and reputational risk.  Compliant is giving the industry the tools to maintain trust, transparency and accountability in a world of constantly evolving privacy expectations. Jamie was a founding member of Meta’s Global Policy Council, and the WFA Digital Governance Exchange which he chaired alongside the WFA Data Ethics Board and ISBA’s Data and Ethics Steering Committee.   Please visit https://www.compliant.global/ for more details on what we discussed. Ethical Marketing Podcast - 8 - Sian and Andrew talk about #ShopEthicalInstead their ethical alternative to Black Friday!

Ethical Marketing Podcast - 8 - Sian and Andrew talk about #ShopEthicalInstead their ethical alternative to Black Friday!
We're back after a bit of a break and in this episode, Stuart talks with Sian Conway-Wood and Dr Andrew Lumsden-Groom about their ethical alternative to Black Friday, Shop Ethical Instead. Here's some more info! #ShopEthicalInstead is a positive alternative to Black Friday - encouraging people to support small, ethical and sustainable businesses throughout the holiday season. Organised by #EthicalHour - the world’s first and largest support community for ethical SMEs, #ShopEthicalInstead is now going into its 5th year and is set to be bigger and better than ever! Having weathered the pandemic and now entering a cost-of-living crisis, it’s a challenging time for ethical SMEs, but they are still fiercely committed to paying living wage, creating jobs, supporting communities and treading as lightly on the planet as possible. Throughout November and December, we spend more money than any other time of year on gifts for our loved ones. By simply purchasing those gifts from the good businesses in our community, we can have a positive impact that ripples around our neighbourhoods and through supply chains across the world. Research shows that approximately 73% of money spent locally stays within the local economy (as opposed to only 43% of money spent at chains). If we want our high streets to thrive and our local communities to be vibrant, diverse places to live, we need to support the SMEs on our doorstep. This year, choose to shop small, vote with your wallet, and #ShopEthicalInstead - because every sale matters to a small business.
