The Discipline of Switching Off with Kat Burki

Kat Burki is a skincare expert and the founder of her eponymous clinical skincare line, known for its science-driven approach to skin health and regeneration. With a background in nutritional biochemistry, epidemiology, health law and disease management, her work sits at the intersection of nutritional science and topical skincare, focusing on how nutrient delivery can support the skin’s natural repair processes.

Before launching her brand, Burki spent more than a decade developing health programs focused on the prevention and management of chronic illness. Her work centered on improving patient outcomes through a deeper understanding of inflammation, cellular health and the role nutrition plays in the body’s ability to repair and regenerate.

Frustrated by the limitations of traditional cosmetic formulations, Burki began applying principles from clinical nutrition to skincare. She developed formulations designed to deliver high-performance nutrients directly to the skin, supporting cellular renewal and barrier repair. This philosophy became the foundation of Kat Burki Skincare, a line known for its focus on ingredient potency, bioavailability and advanced delivery systems.

Today, Burki advocates for a more integrative view of skincare—one that recognizes the relationship between diet, inflammation, gut health and the skin’s ability to regenerate. Through her products and educational initiatives, she continues to explore how clinical nutritional science can be translated into topical skincare designed to support long-term skin health.

This is a public episode. The Emotional Architecture of Jewellry with Pippa Small

To meet Pippa Small, you are immediately struck by the layers of jewellery which line her skin, glinting and jangling with every gentle movement. As she speaks, her hands will touch these bangles, rings and necklaces, as if they are treasured talismans which punctuate her point or give her reassurance. She has always understood jewellery as storied objects, lined with tales of inheritance, landscape, relationships and memory. Pippa has been making jewellery for as long as she can remember. Stones, shells and beads hunted and found to create handmade pieces which chronical her earliest adventures and experiences.

Pippa holds an MA in Medical Anthropology, cultivating her interest in human rights amongst minorities, indigenous peoples and tribal groups through collaborations with grass roots organisations in Borneo, Thailand and India, amongst others. Pippa has won numerous awards for social responsibility, is an ambassador of the human rights organisation Survival International, and was awarded an MBE in 2013 for her ethical jewellery and charity work. Our first shop opened in Notting Hill, London in 2007, followed soon after by our shop in Santa Monica, California.

This is a public episode.
