One was flabby and the other was skinny. むかしむかし、二匹の豚さんがいました。一匹はまるまるなぶたさん（太った豚）で、 もう一匹はがりがりな豚さん（痩せこけた豚）でした。 ☆One day, a big eating competition took place in a farmer’s barn and the winner would win a year’s worth of apples.  ある日、大食い大会が農家の納屋で行われました。優勝者は一年分のリンゴ賞品がもらえました。 ☆Every pig who heard this news was enthusiastic about taking part in this competition. この大食いニュースを聞いた豚たちは皆、とても参加したかったです。 ☆“I will definitely defeat you!” said the flabby pig. 僕は確実にきみを負かすぞ！ ☆“Look! I have a wider mouth and a larger belly than you,” proudly said the flabby pig. これを見て！僕はきみより広い口とお腹を持ってるぞ！ ☆“Hey, check this out! My teeth are all sharp and I can bite quicker than you. I pride myself on my eating speed,” said the skinny pig. こっちこそ見てよ！僕の歯はみんな鋭いぞ！きみより早く食べれるし。僕は食べるスピードを自慢してる。 ☆“So, let’s see who will win this competition then,” said the flabby pig. なら、誰がこの大食い大会で勝つのを見よう！ ☆The big eating competition started on Monday. The competitors numbered over 100 pigs.  大食い大会は月曜日から始まりました。参加した豚さんが100匹以上出ました。 ☆In the beginning, they all ate happily and felt so satisfied. They ate corn the whole day. Not one pig wanted to give up. 最初、参加した豚さんは皆楽しく食べてとても満足していました。一日中ずっとトウモロコシを食べていました。 誰も諦めたくなかったです。 ☆ “The corn is absolutely delicious!” said the flabby pig. トウモロコシはとてもおいしいね ☆“Indeed, it’s extremely tasty,” said the skinny pig. 本当に、とてもおいしいよね ☆On Tuesday, some of the pigs seemed tired and hardly ate at all, others started eating slowly, and still others kept on eating and eating at a rapid pace. 火曜日、数匹の豚さんが疲れたように見えて食べるのが辛く、数匹は 食べるのが遅くなり、他の数匹は今まで通りずっと速いベースで食べていました。 ☆“I am good. I can eat more,” said the flabby pig. 僕は大丈夫！もっと食べれるよ ☆“I can eat more and faster than you,” said the skinny pig. 僕はきみよりもっと早く食べれるぞ ☆On Wednesday, the flabby pig took a big bite out of the corn and saw a quarter of the pigs giving up and leaving the famer’s barn. 水曜日、まるまるな豚さんがトウモロコシを大きく一口食べると、1/4の豚さんが諦めて、納屋から出たのを見ました。 ☆“They give up so fast and I will be a winner,” said the flabby pig. 彼らは諦めるのが速いね！僕は優勝者に違いない！ ☆"Faaaar from it! I will” said the skinny pig. まだまだだよ！僕の方が勝つぞ！ ☆On Thursday, the flabby pig kept on gobbling up the corn and saw another quarter of the pigs giving up and leaving the farmer’s barn. 木曜日、まるまるな豚さんはトウモロコシをがつがつ食べ続け、他の1/4の豚さんが諦めて、納屋から出たのを見ました。 ☆Now, half were gone. Meanwhile, the skinny pig gorged himself on corn. 今、半分の豚さんがいなかったです。その間、がりがりの豚さんがトウモロコシを腹いっぱいに詰め込みました。 ☆On Friday, the flabby pig kept on eating, shoving down three ears of corn at once and saw another quarter of the pigs giving up and leaving the farmer’s barn.  金曜日、まるまるの豚さんがずっと食べていて、トウモロコシを3本、口の中に同時に押し入れて、他の1/4の豚さんが諦めて、納屋から出たのをみました。 ☆Now three-quarters were gone. 今、3/4の豚さんがいなかったです。 ☆“Hey, you got slower!” said the flabby pig. やあ！きみ、遅くなるぞ！ ☆“Not exactly. I just keep my energy and will polish off all the corn soon ,” said the skinny pig. 全くそういうわけではない！ただ僕のちからを保って、トウモロコシを全部食べてしまうぞ！ ☆On Saturday, the flabby pig got a little sick but still tried to be confident and saw the rest of the pigs giving up and leaving the farmer’s barn. 土曜日、まるまるの豚さんはちょっと気分が悪くなりましたが、自信があるように見せ、 そして最後1/4の豚さんが諦めて、納屋から出たのを見ました。 ☆The skinny pig ate another ear of corn, which was now flavorless, and turned to the flabby pig with a deadpan look. がりがりの豚さんが味のないトウモロコシをもう一本食べ、そして、まるまるの豚さんに無表情で振り向いていました。 ☆"Well, it looks like it’s down to just you and me,” said the flabby pig. そうだね、きみと僕しかいなさそうだね！ ☆“Yes, it is!” replied the skinny pig with a dull face. まあね、がりがりの豚さんが何食わぬ顔で返事をしました。 ☆On Sunday, both of them did not want to eat any more corn , but they really wanted to beat each other, so they kept pushing themselves hard to have one more bite. 土曜日、二匹の豚さんは全然食べたくなかったのですが、相手を本当に負かしたかったので、無理して一口でも食べ続けました。 ☆“I feel so sick. I can’t eat any more,” said the skinny pig and stopped. もう気分が悪いよ。全然食べられない！ ☆While skinny pig spoke out about giving up, the final bell rang and flabby pig was congratulated for winning the prize, one year’s worth of apples. がりがりの豚さんが諦めようと言い出したところで、タイムアップのベルが鳴り、 そしてまるまるの豚さんが優勝者となったというお祝いが来ました。賞品は一年分のリンゴです。   ☆“Yeah, I win! I win the big eating competition” said the flabby pig with tears in his eyes. イェーイ！勝った！勝った！僕が大食い大会で勝った！目から涙を出しながら言いました。 ☆While he was full of joy, suddenly a famer showed up and ran into the barn. 喜びが一杯な時、突然お百姓さんが出てきて、納屋に入ってきました。 ☆“I need to pick the biggest and fattest pig to sell and earn some money!” said the farmer as he looked for a pig in the barn. 一番大きくて太い豚を選んで、売りに出してちょっとお金を稼ごう！お百姓さんが納屋で豚を探しながら言いました。 ☆Then he stopped in front of flabby pig. This was the one, so he moved him out of the barn in a cage. そして、お百姓さんがまるまるの豚さんの前に来ました。こいつだ！まるまるの豚さんをケージに入れて納屋から運び出しました。 ☆“What a shame that flabby pig was picked!
