This is the REAL LIFE side of parenting; the highs, the lows, the laughs, the tears and everything in between. On this podcast we discuss everything from childcare to how this podcast came to life from host and blogger Hayley Burtt’s desire to create a blog that showed what a real, unpolished nuclear family is all about! This is a behind the scenes look at what happens when you are juggling kids, tantrums, poos, injuries, school runs, running businesses and dealing with various and ever evolving versions of mum guilt. Think of this as an audio blog post that shows the madness behind this particular family tree… in fact, the stories, emotions and honesty is going to be so real that you should think of this like having a cup of tea with your best mate!

E16: Are we getting it right?
This week’s episode ends Season One of the Family Unfiltered Podcast. Inspired when watching my eldest son melt down at a recent birthday party, it got me thinking, how do we know if we are getting it right? Telling them how to act and behave.   Ultimately, in life, I want my children to be kind, grateful and happy. But is this easier said than done? Because there are a lot of emotional roads and turns to navigate along the way that I don’t think we can ever fully prepare for.   There is no set handbook. Every child is different. Every parent is different. Everyone’s situation is different.   I think the most powerful thing we have is our gut feeling. Our inner knowing. As long as we guide them from a place we think is right, well that’s the best that we can do right?!   In this episode we discuss: Letting them be their own person Standing up for yourself Forcing them into situations outside their comfort zone Bribery and reward charts Dealing with bereavement Do they have too much Watch should they be watching!   For more information about what was covered in this week’s show or to connect with Hayley head to:    Connect with Hayley Appleby Burtt: www.facebook.com/hayleyapplebyburtt1   www.instagram.com/hayleyapplebyburtt   Connect with Family Unfiltered:   www.facebook.com/familyunfiltered   www.instagram.com/familyunfilteredofficial   Read the Family Unfiltered blog:   www.familyunfiltered.co   You can also check out my branding and design agency www.orangelamb.co.uk

The ‘Funny’ Things that Parents Do

The ‘Funny’ Things that Parents Do
This week’s podcast was inspired when I was having a morning wee, sitting with the door wide open, ears listening out for the kids playing in the room next door and having that realisation that I rarely go to the toilet in private anymore.   When we become a parent, a whole world opens up and we find ourselves living in a bit of bubble; from binging on children’s TV (I am back at the ‘In The Night Garden’ phase ...still find this creepy and trippy!!), putting rubber corners on every single surface to make them safe and enjoying snacking on baby food (surely it’s not just me!)   I sat and pondered some of the funny things I now do as a parent, things that have become so etched in my DNA that they actually seem normal. So me and the husbie James Burtt caught up to chat about some of the funny things parents do, my top 15 with a few spontaneous extras thrown in.   In this episode we discuss: The art of sniffing butts Nano-seconds personal grooming Character obsessions When a trip to your mates becomes a safety risk assessment Stealing your kid's chocolate …oh and money from the piggy bank (for that last-minute take-out delivery or window cleaner …don’t judge me!) Rocking stained clothes Choosing chores over-parenting   For more information about what was covered in this week’s show or to connect with Hayley head to:    Connect with Hayley Appleby Burtt: www.facebook.com/hayleyapplebyburtt1 www.instagram.com/hayleyapplebyburtt   Connect with Family Unfiltered: www.facebook.com/familyunfiltered www.instagram.com/familyunfilteredofficial   Read the Family Unfiltered blog: www.familyunfiltered.co

E14: Discussing Single-Sex Family Dynamics With The Claire’s
In this week's podcast episode I had the pleasure once again, (there was a deleted file incident that we won’t mention 🤪) to interview an incredible couple that I met at my son’s school. Both named Claire, (not confusing at all), we caught up during Pride month to discuss being a same-sex married couple.   In the interview we talk about the logistics and struggles of having a baby in a same-sex couple, raising a child plus we dig deep into their past, finding out when they both identified as being gay, how those close to them reacted, IVF and sperm donation, society reflections and, of course, how they met! Yes it is an incredible episode jam-packed full of wow moments.   In this episode we discuss: Having to ‘come out’ on a daily basis The feeling of being different  The process of getting pregnant Dreams of an open world  Section 28  Travel ban list!  If you would like to connect with the Claire’s you can find their social info below: Insta https://www.instagram.com/cw_coaching_nutrition/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/clairewarburton003  https://cwcoachingandnutrition.hbzoom.com/ For more information about what was covered in this week’s show or to connect with Hayley head to:  Connect with Hayley Appleby Burtt: www.facebook.com/hayleyapplebyburtt1 www.instagram.com/hayleyapplebyburtt Connect with Family Unfiltered: www.facebook.com/familyunfiltered www.instagram.com/familyunfilteredofficial Read the Family Unfiltered blog: www.familyunfiltered.co The Family Unfiltered Podcast is the un-preachy, non-teachy parenting show that shares the joys, struggles and hilarious adventures of real family life. E13: How to get your sleep back!

E13: How to get your sleep back!
With my two-year-old entering a massive sleep regression, I have found myself transported back to those horrendous memories of my firstborn, Louis’ horrendous sleep habits.   Yes, the hubby James and I made all the classic errors, allowing our little one to snuggle up all too often in our bed, resulting in years of sleepless nights, bedtime tantrums (me and Louis 🤣), and ending in us seeking the help of a professional sleep trainer.   We tried them all; the gradual retreat method, the controlled cry-it-out method, the pick-up and put-down method, the ‘completely let them lose their shit and ignore’ method… the list goes on.   So although I am no expert, in this week’s episode, I thought why not share my journey and the advice I have been given or researched over the years, because if it goes a small step to helping you claim back some of your sleeping hours, then I know you'll thank me for it!   In this episode we talk about: Those easy mistakes  Creating bedtime routines The types of sleep training  Cot vs napping on the go Feeling refreshed rather than a zombie!   If you want to read my blog ‘Sleep Training a 2-Year Old Into Bed and Beyond’ click here https://www.familyunfiltered.co/post/sleep-training-a-2-year-old-into-bed-beyond   For more information about what was covered in this week’s show or to connect with Hayley head to:    Connect with Hayley Appleby Burtt: www.facebook.com/hayleyapplebyburtt1 www.instagram.com/hayleyapplebyburtt   Connect with Family Unfiltered: www.facebook.com/familyunfiltered www.instagram.com/familyunfilteredofficial   Read the Family Unfiltered blog: www.familyunfiltered.co   The Family Unfiltered Podcast is the un-preachy, non-teachy parenting show that shares the joys, struggles and hilarious adventures of real family life. E12: A Career Caring For Children with Naomi Bushell
In this week’s episode of the Family Unfiltered podcast, I am still absolutely buzzing as I got to interview one of my closest friends who just so happens to be an Ofsted registered childminder, well for now at least. Yes, the one and only Naomi Bushell has shared her life’s journey that has been dedicated to working with children. For so many of us, the thought of working with children brings on heart palpitations, but for some crazy people out there, working with children brings them absolute joy and Naomi, or as she was once known, Nutty Nae, is a fantastic example.   Her whole career has revolved around children; from working in nurseries, travelling overseas to work as a holiday Kids Rep, running her very own successful childminding business and now, Naomi is about to embark on a new chapter after discovering her love of working with children with special needs.   She really is an all-round shining beacon of fun and love, someone who was put on this earth to nurture and bring out the best in children.   In this episode we discuss: The truth about being a kids rep aged 22! Disney obsession (just listen and it will make sense) Nurseries …that weren’t up to scratch The highs of running her own childcare business Unexpected journey that uncovered her true passion Being considered the ‘go to’ expert For more information about what was covered in this week’s show or to connect with Hayley head to:    Connect with Hayley Appleby Burtt: www.facebook.com/hayleyapplebyburtt1 www.instagram.com/hayleyapplebyburtt   Connect with Family Unfiltered: www.facebook.com/familyunfiltered www.instagram.com/familyunfilteredofficial   Read the Family Unfiltered blog: www.familyunfiltered.co   The Family Unfiltered Podcast is the un-preachy, non-teachy parenting show that shares the joys, struggles and hilarious adventures of real family life.
