It's the story of a convicted bank robber who tries to earn his freedom by rescuing the President, who recently crash landed into the prison. Also the prison is the entire island of Manhattan. It's "No Shave November" so we're looking at films with bearded characters. This week we discus True Grit (2010). It's a period drama/western film, a remake of the 1969 movie of the same name, and an adaptation of the novel of the same name, by author Charles Portis. True Grit tells the story of a stubborn teenager who enlists the help of a tough US Marshal to track down her father’s murderer. For week 3 of Creepy Juncture 2024 we discuss The Shining. This 1980 horror/drama film tells the story of a family isolated in a hotel for the winter where the father is employed as the off-season caretaker. The son sees foreboding visions of past and future, and a sinister presence influences the father into madness and violence. We discuss pacing, audio, missing topiaries, children who are cunning under pressure, and a line so bafflingly out of place it became the title of the episode. IT tells the story of seven kids banding together to battle an ancient evil manifesting as a psychologically terrifying clown, continuing into their adulthood, when they kick a stupid spider to death. Though made for TV and originally released as 2 episodes, we’re looking at IT as 1 movie. Topics discussed include psychological deconstruction, the incomparable performance by Tim Curry, connections to other Stephen King stories, and even a similarity to The Matrix (1999).
