<div>Reigning FIFA World Cup holders France took one step closer to retaining their world champions crown as they edged out England in a thrilling quarter-final clash.<br>

After enjoying the best of the first-half, the French side had to weather the storm as England dominated after the interval, but eventually did enough to win the game through Olivier Giroud's header.<br>

Harry Kane, who had earlier scored a penalty to draw England level and also equal Wayne Rooney's record goal tally for the Three Lions, also blazed another spot-kick over the bar as France eventually won the game to progress to the semi-final.<br>
