<h1>Episode Notes</h1> <p>When King Anthony dies, the crown of Marlowe passes to his youngest brother, <strong>Ferdinand Grainger</strong>—a ruler crowned too quickly, and on ground far from stable. Even as his coronation dust settles, rivals gather: the High Lords of Knox challenge Ferdinand’s claim, backing his young nephew <strong>Virgil</strong>, the rightful heir in the eyes of many. War looms as loyalty fractures across the realm.</p> <p>As armies mobilise, an unexpected figure arrives at court—<strong>Jacob Sharp</strong>, a bold and sharp-tongued bastard whose lineage ties him irrevocably to the royal family. His presence complicates the coming conflict, both strengthening Ferdinand’s forces and exposing the moral fault-lines at the heart of his rule.</p> <p>A fragile peace is forged through political marriage, but it is short-lived. The Church intervenes, excommunicating Ferdinand and turning allies into enemies. Personal ambition, religious authority, and dynastic pride collide as war erupts once more. In the chaos, a single command seals the kingdom’s fate—and the death of an innocent boy sends shockwaves through Marlowe.</p> <p>Abandoned by his nobles, betrayed by the Church, and struck down by illness, Ferdinand’s reign collapses as quickly as it began.
