A desperate and greed-ridden attempt at keeping the music alive, "Shaft's Big Score" is a valiant effort in an attempt at fostering the early formation of a franchise, following the previous success of its predecessor "Shaft". Taking some big departures and tone shifts, the film ultimately is not as successful as the original (neither critically nor financially), but does still offer some of what made the first film great.
