Description
Interview with Her Majesty Queen Diambi Kabatusuila Tshiyoyo Muata Woman King of the Order of the Leopard | Sovereign of the Bakwa Luntu People of the Democratic Republic of the Congo | Queen Mother of the Bantu People of Brazil.
My experience with Queen Diambi was quite extraordinary. I had the profound honor of interviewing Her Majesty Queen Diambi Kabatusuila — Woman King of the Order of the Leopard, sovereign of the Bakwa Luntu people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Queen Mother of the Bantu People of Brazil. Beyond inspiring.
Queen Diambi carries a true mantle — not only the sacred sovereignty of her lineage, but a profound spiritual one. She called each of us forward into our own majesty of purpose, and our planet into greater compassion. She spoke with rare eloquence about the urgent need to revise the narrative of Africa — while reminding us that her people still need clean water, education, and dignity through the Elikia Hope Foundation (elikia means hope).
Here is someone who is really speaking from Spirit. She said so many things that struck me — but really, it was her presence. She radiates the presence of love and leadership, as well as humility. And you can just feel her African kings and queens, her ancestors, through her. I think it is in part because she is so honoring of her ancestors.
She carries a quiet gravitas — which of course accompanies royalty. But there was more than that. It was the gravitas of calling. The gravitas of Spirit.
One moment in particular struck me. She said:
"It's not like I have a magic wand. If I did, I assure you we'd all be living in love, and no children would go hungry, and every child would have clean water. I have this scepter, which I must always carry, which is not comfortable and I can't set it down. It's to remind me of my constant responsibility — that I am here to serve not only my people, but the world. I can't just put it down and go dance the tango."
It reminded me of my own spiritual teacher, John-Roger, who often said, "I never forget I'm the Traveler."
Queen Diambi was saying the same thing in her own way: I am not allowed to forget. I am the queen. And I carry the responsibility that goes with that.
