Description

For a second year in a row, South Africans took home the prize at the International Emmys held recently in New York. Cape Town based directors Jac Hamman and Sarah Scrimgeour won in the Kids:Animation category for their work on the BBC animated Christmas special, Tabby McTat.

In 2023, the award was won by The Smeds and The Smoos, directed by Daniel Snaddon and Samantha Cutler.
In this episode Gino ventures into the world of animation with Jac via Zoom

“Growing up you always dream of winning one of these awards but it seems so impossible,” says Jac. “You don’t imagine as a South African you can reach that level so it feels great to win after all the hard work. We’re very proud of the team.”

Tabby McTat is set on the streets of London and follows the story of a musical cat and Fred, a gifted busker, and their warm, amazing friendship. Narrated by Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who), the heartfelt story stars the voice talents of Rob Brydon (Barbie), Sope Dirisu (Slow Horses) and Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes).

"After two years of hard work, it was tough not being able to watch the premiere on the BBC,” says Sarah. “So, it’s fantastic that it’s now on Showmax and everyone we know can finally see it.”

Purr-fect!
