We&apos;re conditioned to believe happiness is waiting somewhere in the future, just beyond our current circumstances. But in our pursuit of &quot;what&apos;s next,&quot; how often do we miss what&apos;s right in front of us?As I&apos;ve been studying to become an End-of-Life Doula, I&apos;ve heard a phrase that continues to resonate deeply with me:<blockquote>&quot;Being present is the highest form of authenticity.&quot;</blockquote>It&apos;s one of the reasons I&apos;m so drawn to this work. At the end of life, there are no shortcuts, no distractions, and no pretending. Presence is the gift.The same was true during my years working in a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department. When lives hang in the balance, you can&apos;t be thinking about tomorrow. You must be completely present because every second matters.I also explore the connection between presence and flow state—those moments when you&apos;re so immersed in what you&apos;re doing that time seems to disappear. Whether it&apos;s meaningful work, a conversation, a hobby, or intimacy with someone you love, the magic happens when you&apos;re fully there.This week also brought an unexpected reminder. I started driving Uber passengers again and had the privilege of spending time with an 83-year-old grandmother. The ride itself wasn&apos;t remarkable. The connection was.
