Zahvat (pronounced like ‘zákhvat’) is a Ukrainian DJ, a podcaster, and formerly a DJ teacher at Kultura Zvuku.
The alias belongs to Dariia Kornieieva, who currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany. With four years behind the decks, she has journeyed from digital to vinyl, though she has no plans to give up either, fusing both approaches.
For almost three years, Dariia has been running the Vzahvativid podcast, where she speaks with representatives of the Ukrainian electronic underground scene, discovering their music tastes together with listeners. The project is not only about fun but also has an educational angle, combining entertainment with insights into electronic music history, modern context, and personal experiences of artists. Guests have included Nastya Muravyova, Vera Logdanidi, Roman Khropko, Cantrust, and many others.
In addition to DJing and podcasting, Zahvat has also made her first steps as a producer. Her debut melancholic instrumental track ‘Bouquet for Olha’ was released on the Ukrainian label СИСТЕМА as part of the compilation Ukrainian Field Notes Volume II.
The DJ carefully collects electro, tech house, electro house, and minimal techno with distinct notes of acid, blip, and glitch. Her sets are a mix of modern and old-fashioned, flirty and funny at the same time. The stranger the sound, the more likely it is to make it into her selection.
Zahvat played at ∄ (Kyrylivska 41), Strichka Festival (Closer), Brudnyi Pes Festival, Stezhka, Veselka, Night Ambassadors, Some People, Brukxt, 20ft Radio, HÖR, and other venues. She has also shared lineups with Bjarki, Charlotte Bendiks, Eversines b2b Marie K, Karine, Alex Savage, and other artists.
