But instead of becoming jealous like his father Saul, Jonathan chose friendship. In this episode, we’re unpacking Jonathan’s story in 1 Samuel 18–20, his covenant friendship with David, the danger he faced standing up to Saul, and what his story teaches us about selfless friendship, comparison, and the unexpected ways God can use people to protect and provide for us. A widow. A broken promise. Deception. Sex. And a story that somehow leads to Jesus. Tamar’s story in Genesis 38 is one of the most uncomfortable stories in the Bible.
