Medieval Intrigue: Villains, Heroes, and Twists That Work with Author Robert A Walker
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Robert A Walker, author of the book Six Moons, Seven Gods. Robert A. Walker grew up in Northwestern Massachusetts. After graduating college, he packed his scant belongings in a car with rusted-out floorboards and headed west, where he began a decades-long career in local government. He’s lived in California ever since, and now resides along the Pacific Ocean with his wife and dogs, where he writes fantasy novels with a mix of drama, heart and humor. His debut novel, Six Moons, Seven Gods, (the first in a fantasy trilogy titled The Legends of Baelon) received several honors, including The Chrysalis BREW Project’s Readers’ Choice Award for June, 2024; Chick Lit Cafe’s Book Excellence Award for Best Medieval Fantasy, November, 2023; a Literary Titan Gold Book Award in December, 2023, and a Readers’ Favorite Bronze Award in 2024. More recently, Book Two in The Legends of Baelon series–Two Crowns, Three Blades–received Reader Views’ 2025 Gold Book Award; Word Media’s Page Turner Award; Literary Titan’s Silver Book Award, 2025; and a Reader’s Favorite Bronze Book Award. Book Three, One Taste of Euphoria, is due to be released September 1, 2026! When not fabricating stories, Robert can be found roaming local tennis courts or working on a never-ending list of DIY house projects. In my book review, I stated Six Moons, Seven Gods is a fantasy by Robert A Walker. And despite fantasy not being one of my go-to genres, I loved this story. Why? Because the characters were so well-developed. I simply had to keep reading to learn what happened to them. Sibil Dunn is a young woman who finds herself at a crossroads. Her father died when she was young. Her mom is crazy. Her best friend died in a tragic accident. And the boy she has loved for years is about to become a knight and doesn't even know she loves him. And then life gets worse. The storyline will keep you engaged, but it is the characters, including all the side characters, who will hook you in. Evil-doers, thieves, royalty, priests, knights, and simple townspeople just doing their jobs - all captured my attention and made me feel like I was living in the kingdom of Baelon. I really loved that even the good-guys weren't perfect and often made errors of judgment. Great job, Robert, on making fiction characters feel real. This is a must-buy! Power Has a Price: When Secrets Become Deadly Weapons with Author DL Cary
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is DL Cary, author of the book Maria's Shadow. D.L. Cary – Christian Suspense & Clean Thriller Author Author Bio. D.L. Cary writes faith-driven Christian suspense and clean thriller novels that fuse pulse-pounding intrigue with uplifting themes of redemption, justice, and hope. His debut series, The Veil Chronicles, gives fans of inspirational fiction, redemptive suspense, and spiritual thrillers a front-row seat to covert conspiracies and spiritual warfare— delivered in a page-turning, family-friendly style that never relies on profanity or graphic violence. Rooted in Alabama, D.L. has spent 27 years married to his best friend, Heile, and shares their home with a rambunctious squad of pets. He credits his creativity to his faith and readers who crave values-driven stories where justice prevails, and hope endures. In my book review, I stated Maria's Shadow is a domestic thriller by DL Cary. If you enjoy books with powerful secret entities that keep dirt on all the players from elected officials to presidents of companies, then you are going to love this book. We quickly meet a young woman from Mexico who thinks she is leaving her home for a better life. However, she finds herself part of a human trafficking ring - and pregnant. Despite a narrow escape, nothing is safe for Maria because the Saffron Veil has eyes and ears everywhere. Detective John Jefferson and his FBI buddy, Special Agent Marcus Carter, find themselves embroiled in Maria's plight - and that of many others just like her. But like Maria, John and Marcus soon realize that whoever is behind the trafficking ring has people in high places - high enough to get them killed. This is a fast moving story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This is the first in a series, so there will be a lot more action to keep you interest! Women Behind the Gospel: Seeing Jesus Through Their Eyes with Author Katie Sampias
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Katie Sampias, author of the book Her Story of Jesus. Katie Sampias is a Christian, wife, mother, who writes about mystery, hope and contemplative prayer. All her life she has loved every aspect of stories – reading them, writing them, imagining them and investigating and researching them. She grew up in Brisbane, Australia, in a busy household with five children. She was the only girl! It was not long after she learned to write that she discovered her love of writing stories. At the age of 12, she won a trip to Vanuatu for writing she had submitted to the local paper. She finished school, went to college, and started working in a field that was not writing, but the desire to write never left her. Her Story of Jesus is her first complete book. It was something that bubbled up from within, and she simply had to finish! In my book review, I stated Her Story of Jesus is a religious historical fiction by Katie Sampias. Katie uses something she calls investigative imaginative prayer to understand Jesus. In other words, she imagined herself with women mentioned in the Bible and then asked questions like, "How did their encounters change them?" "What would it have been like to have been in that place at that time?" "What were they feeling?" Her imaginings led to this book where the reader gets to be inside a gospel story but from the viewpoint of a lesser-known woman. From Mary, the mother of Jesus, to her midwife, to the bride at the Cana wedding, to Pilate's wife, and more, we see Jesus from the eyes of these women. We learn their story and how meeting Jesus changed them - and why. I loved this idea and actually have been contemplating my own narrative about Mary but didn't have the words like imaginative prayer or imaginative contemplation. I think that this is a good book even if you don't see yourself as especially religious. It might open your eyes to what women of another time thought and how they responded when meeting a religious figure. It's an easy read - don't miss it! Real Lives, Fictional Paths: The Power of Family Lore with Author Tudor Alexander
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Tudor Alexander, author of the books The Last Patient and In Darkness and Light. Alex Duvan, who publishes under the pen name Tudor Alexander, was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1950 and moved to the United States in 1977. He holds a Master’s degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. Alex lives in Maryland with his wife, Viorica, and has a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren. Alex started writing in high school, and enjoyed an early success, publishing many short stories in established literary magazines. Although writing was his passion, he studied engineering and management to support his family. After the 1989 Romanian revolution, he published several novels and short story collections in Romania, including The Runners, Smoke, Planet New York, One Morning and One Afternoon, and The Visitor. Alex writes in both Romanian and English. He tells the story of immigrants struggling to adapt to a new country and a different culture, and finding the courage to overcome the fear of the unknown. They are people who, like the author, took a leap of faith to find political and intellectual freedom, despite the heartbreak of leaving friends and family behind. Was it worth it? He is a member of the Maryland Writers Association and serves on the board of directors for the Little Patuxent Review, a biannual Maryland literary publication. In my book review, I stated The Last Patient is a historical fiction by Tudor Alexander. This book captures what it was like to live in communist Romania during the 50 years after the end of World War II. The two main characters are Kostea and Clara, both doctors and both trapped in a world not of their choosing. Kostea joins the communist party in hopes of advancing his career. Clara works in a lab so she has 9 to 5 hours and can be available to raise her son. Both struggle to figure out who they are in a world full of shared apartments, food shortages, and government corruption. Although they love one another fiercely, they also make mistakes - some of them costly. They both also love their country and are fiercely Romanian, despite the current regime. I love how we see their ordinary lives and decisions against the backdrop of communism. We see joy and sadness and pride and fear. People find a way to live despite their circumstances. I loved this book and think you will too. In Darkness and Light is a historical fiction by Tudor Alexander. This book is the second book from the author about living in Romania during and following WWII. Tina is a young Jewish girl who determines communism, rather than Zionism, is the answer that makes the most sense in an antisemitic world. When she is forced to the village of Transnistria and suffers with her Jewish friends and family, her communist convictions solidify. But when Romania becomes communist, Tina meets Iulian and begins to see that the ideals of communism aren't matching the actualities. I love this book because it shows a young girl's progression along with Romania's progression. It is also a beautiful, but tragic, love story. And a story of resilience and grit and reinvention. I absolutely loved this book!
