Description
Good morning! Here's your surf zone forecast for West Central and Southwest Florida this Saturday, June 13th, brought to you by the National Weather Service.
Let's start with the northern beaches from Cedar Key down through Hernando Beach. Today you're looking at nearly glass-smooth conditions with surf at one foot or less. Rip current risk stays low, so it's generally safe out there. The weather is mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s, and we've got an extreme UV index, so definitely get that sunscreen on. Winds are light, coming from the west at five to ten miles per hour. Water temps are sitting in the lower 80s, which is perfect for a comfortable swim. Tonight things stay calm with mostly cloudy skies and lows in the lower 80s. Sunday follows the same script with mostly sunny skies and the same light conditions, though winds will pick up slightly to ten to fifteen miles per hour out of the west.
Moving down to the Pinellas County beaches, including Clearwater Beach and Saint Pete Beach, we've got that same one foot or less surf and low rip current risk for today. It'll be mostly sunny with an extreme UV index and upper 80s for your high. Northwest winds are minimal at five to ten miles per hour. Tonight looks partly cloudy early then mostly cloudy, with temps dropping to around 80. Here's where things get interesting for Sunday though. While surf heights remain at a foot or less, the rip current risk bumps up to moderate. That means life-threatening rip currents are possible in the surf zone. Still mostly sunny with the same light winds, but definitely pay attention to the water and use the buddy system if you're heading out.
Finally, the southern zones around Charlotte and Lee Counties including Sanibel and Captiva. Today brings a moderate chance of showers and thunderstorms mixed in with mostly sunny skies, so keep an eye on the sky. Otherwise conditions are similar with one foot or less surf and low rip current risk. Highs again in the upper 80s with an extreme UV index. Light north winds shift west in the afternoon. Water temps here are a bit warmer in the mid 80s. Tonight stays dry with partly cloudy conditions and upper 70s lows. Sunday clears up nicely with mostly sunny skies, light winds becoming westerly, and that same calm one foot or less surf.
In summary, a beautiful beach day is shaping up across West Central and Southwest Florida with warm water, light winds, and mostly sunny skies. Just remember the moderate rip current risk developing Sunday along the Pinellas beaches, and don't skip the sunscreen anywhere you're heading. Have a great Saturday at the beach!
