Good morning, this is your surf zone forecast for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands brought to you by the National Weather Service in San Juan.
Starting with the northern coast, San Juan and vicinity is looking at moderate rip current risk today with surf around four feet. You'll find partly sunny skies with scattered showers and southeast winds around ten miles per hour. Wednesday improves slightly with mostly sunny conditions and isolated showers, though the rip current risk remains moderate and surf stays around four feet.
Heading east to the northeast beaches of Rio Grande, Luquillo, Fajardo and Humacao, we're also seeing moderate rip current risk with four foot surf today. Expect mostly cloudy skies with numerous showers and southeast winds around ten miles per hour. Wednesday looks much better with mostly sunny skies and isolated showers.
The North Central beaches from Arecibo to Dorado are in for a similar story today with moderate rip current risk and four foot surf. You'll see mostly sunny conditions until afternoon, then scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms possible. Light southeast winds around five to ten miles per hour will keep things mellow.
Over on the northwest side near Aguadilla and Isabela, today starts mostly sunny before turning mostly cloudy this afternoon. Numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected with moderate rip current risk and four foot waves. Winds will be light from the east around five miles per hour.
Now shifting to the western and southern regions where conditions are a bit calmer. Mayaguez and vicinity has low rip current risk with smaller three foot surf. You're looking at sunny skies early then partly sunny this afternoon with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Southwest Puerto Rico around Cabo Rojo and Guanica enjoys low rip current risk with three foot surf and mostly sunny skies with only isolated showers. Southeast winds around ten miles per hour.
Moving to the south coast near Ponce, low rip current risk continues with three foot surf, mostly sunny skies and isolated showers with light southeast winds.
Southeast Puerto Rico beaches show low rip current risk and three foot surf with partly sunny skies and scattered showers.
Out to the islands, Culebra has moderate rip current risk with four foot surf today and stronger winds from the southeast at fifteen to twenty miles per hour. Vieques shows low rip current risk with three foot surf and lighter southeast winds around fifteen miles per hour.
In the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas and St. John have low rip current risk with three foot surf and mostly sunny skies despite some scattered showers. Southeast winds fifteen to twenty miles per hour. St. Croix shows moderate rip current risk today with four foot surf and partly sunny conditions, though this drops to low risk Wednesday with three foot surf.
