Am I a Runner? With CBeebies star Evie Pickerill
Welcome to Week Seven of our "Here Comes The Run" series where we sit down with CBeebies presenter Evie Pickerill. Evie ran her first London Marathon this year in her role as a Children with Cancer Ambassador and she's got a secret... she was a swimmer, not a runner, so we find out if the experience has made her change lanes. We talk about jeffing, how she got through those long - sometimes wet - runs and how to fit training around her busy job at the BBC. Evie also tells us about how when she needed to dig deep in the hard marathon moments, she took solace in remembering why she was doing it in the first place, to raise awareness for children who are battling with cancer. There's school sports day chat and also a Banksy quote that Thommo still can't quite remember! We’ve got some amazing offers for our Run Club community: We're delighted to work with our sponsor, HYCO - Your Hydration, covered. Full-spectrum electrolytes + essential vitamins Zero sugar. The FTD Brothers - Jordan Adams
It's Week 6 of our "Here Comes The Run" series and this episode is a very special and emotional one. Paula and Thommo talk to the running inspiration Jordan Adams who is one half of The FTD Brothers - the one that carries a fridge around his marathons! Jordan and his brother Cian run in memory of their mum who was diagnosed with ‘Early-Onset’ Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) before she sadly passed away on 14th March 2016 at the age of 52. However, their story doesn't end there, and Jordan tells us how when he and his brother were also diagnosed with this disease, Jordan decided to use the power of knowing what lies ahead to take action in the form of raising awareness as a community speaker and fundraising through his running - he's done marathons, ultras and even attempted 982 laps of an athletics track in the depths of winter! We learn about Jordan's incredible story and how he sacrificed his career as an amateur footballer and painting & decorating to advocate for FTD.  Have a listen to this episode to hear so much more from this incredible person. If you would like to donate and get them to the £2 million mark then head to their websitehttps://theftdbrothers.com/pages/donate We are going to keep that marathon theme going over the next few weeks. We want to hear your stories. Send us a video telling us about your marathon journey and we will feature it in the podcast and on socials and the YouTube Channel. If you're looking for running inspiration either because you've reached the 40 milestone, are perimenopausal or because you also quite fancy running up volcanoes then don't miss this episode with Jo & Gav Pavey. We talk to five-time Olympian Jo about being an inspiration to many after winning the 10,000m gold medal at the European Championships in Zürich, just ten months after giving birth to her second child becoming the oldest female European champion in history at the age of 40 years and 325 days. We dig into the world of Gav, Jo's husband and long-term coach who has been instrumental in many of Jo's achievements and who now has a successful training squad of youngsters including cross country champion Innes Fitzgerald. We dare you to not put on your running shoes after listening to this legendary pair!
