How do you deal with your children becoming adults, doing grown-up things?
Elaine’s managing sleepovers with her son and his girlfriend: “having a girlfriend has changed him in so many positive ways” she says. Rachel’s laughing: “in which life would my mother have let me?" “Never!” Elaine answers.
Their children expect them to be different from the generation that raised them, but they ask: “does that mean that we need to accept everything? Not everything about the way we've been brought up is necessarily wrong.”
