I’m your host, documentary filmmaker and author, Sara Hirsh Bordo. For the last 12 years, I’ve been telling the real stories of women and girls. I’m also an autoimmune diagnosed lifelong recovering good girl and a recovering self-compromising eldest daughter with Hashimoto's.
In writing and researching for my book and my own national research across 1,000 other autoimmune diagnosed American women, I was lucky enough to sit down with an incredible group of experts spanning from science to soul, across medicine and modalities.
This podcast is a sneak peek, ahead of the book's official release, into this research and these powerful stories. It offers so many gems of wisdom, so many slips of permission, that are in service of you now.
For the first time, I’m coming out from behind the camera and the story I’m telling is mine. The story of what being raised to be a good girl can do to our health as women.
We are not here to stay the same. We are here to transform, to heal and to rise.

“Sara Hirsh Bordo combines deeply suffered but ultimately triumphant personal history with the irrefutable science of mind-body unity to show that disease can arise from being too good for one’s own good—and be overcome by reclaiming power and agency. This illuminating volume will liberate many women from self-suppression and its frequent consequence, physical illness.”
